Empowering Tomorrow's Leaders Today
Kappa League: Guiding Future Leaders
Our Kappa League program is a cornerstone of our commitment to youth development, offering guidance and mentorship to young men in grades 6–12.
ICARE Foundation History
Founded in 2008, the ICARE Foundation is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization recognized under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Foundation was established to serve as the philanthropic arm supporting the outreach and community engagement initiatives of Kappa Alpha Psi members and their allies. Rooted in a legacy of leadership and service, the ICARE Foundation is an extension of one of the nation’s most historic fraternities comprised primarily of African American men. It has grown to become a respected voice and catalyst for change—advancing large-scale social and systemic transformation to improve outcomes for youth in underserved communities across the United States through advocacy, education, and impactful programming.
The Foundation operates on the belief that the complex challenges confronting today’s youth require bold, collaborative solutions. We approach our mission through a multi-faceted strategy that includes mobilizing public and private partnerships, leveraging the power of social media, introducing innovative community-based programs, shaping public policy, and aligning with organizations that share our commitment to progress. By harnessing the collective power of individuals and institutions who believe in opportunity, equity, and empowerment, the ICARE Foundation is building a legacy of hope and meaningful impact.
Mission
The mission of the ICARE Foundation is to identify, support, and invest in transformative opportunities that empower today’s youth to lead the social, economic, and educational advancement of underserved and underrepresented communities—locally, nationally, and globally.
Vision
The ICARE Foundation envisions a future where individual achievement is empowered, and communities of color are strong, thriving, and resilient. We believe this vision can only be fulfilled through strategic and sustained investment in the development, education, and leadership of our youth—ensuring they are equipped to drive meaningful change and shape a more equitable society.
Kappa League / Guide Right Program
The Kappa League, an integral component of the Guide Right National Service Initiative of Kappa Alpha Psi® Fraternity, Inc., was established on February 12, 1969, by the Los Angeles Alumni Chapter at Alain LeRoy Locke High School. Officially adopted by the Grand Chapter during the 56th Grand Chapter Meeting in August 1970, the program was the visionary work of Mel L. Davis and Edgar H. Bishop, a recipient of the prestigious Elder Watson Diggs Award. Together, they created a transformative initiative that continues to impact the lives of young men across the nation.
Kappa League is a leadership development program focused on the educational, occupational, and social guidance of male students in grades 6–12. Designed to cultivate future leaders, the program engages participants through structured mentorship, personal development workshops, career exploration, and community service. Rooted in the mission of “training for leadership,” Kappa League provides enriching and empowering experiences that build character, promote academic excellence, and prepare young men for success in every field of human endeavor. As a core expression of Kappa Alpha Psi’s commitment to service, the Kappa League exemplifies how strategic guidance and positive role modeling can shape the next generation of leaders and changemakers.
